BENEFITING: MARYS PLACE BY THE SEA INC
EVENT DATE: May 21, 2016
On April 10, 2014 I went to see my gynecologist about a suspicious lump. One month and a diagnostic mammo, MRI and biopsy later, I was sitting in a room with a breast surgeon and told that I had Stage 3 breast cancer. By June 10th, a port was put in and on June 17th, I was sitting in the oncology office receiving my first chemo treatment. Today, a little more than 2 years, 29 radiation treatments and 5 surgeries later, I am happy to say I am doing very well. Thanks to the miracles of modern medicine, my wonderful doctors, the support of friends and family, I've weathered this storm. I've also been blessed to get to know the wonderful women from the non-profit organization, Mary's Place by the Sea. Their mission is to support women with cancer through integrative services, which complement their medical treatment and empower, educate and support their healing: mind, body and soul. They have since partnered with A Time For Me and these two organizations (now one) have helped me and hundreds of other women in so many ways, and are in need of your help in order to continue their good work. THE MEANING BEHIND MY TEAM'S NAME: The last weekend in May, A Time for Me along with Mary's Place took 26 women in some stage of cancer to a mountain spa retreat. At the end of the weekend we all gathered in prayer, and thanks, and meditation. A poem, entitled Advice from a Tree was read. An excerpt from that poem reads, "Stand tall and proud. Sink your roots into the earth. Go out on a limb. Be content with your natural beauty. Enjoy the view." Las Ramas in Spanish means "The branches." I am reaching out to all of you, to please be an extension ( a limb, a branch) of the tree that is Mary's Place. They recently built a larger home in order to accommodate more women and are greatly in need of funds to support this effort.
