Austin's Next Step
Organized by: Tobie Bunievatz
Hi, my name is Tobie Bunievatz. My son, Austin is going to turn 21 this month. He attends the life skills class at Pottsboro High school. Austin loves to ride the bus and go to school everyday, one might say, "he lives for it"! When an individual with special needs turns 22 they are no longer allowed to attend school. As a parent this breaks my heart. I want for my son what every other parent wants, for their child to grow and develop into a productive young adult. Austin has always touched the hearts of everyone he has ever met. I was told many times over the years, that by surpassing his life expectancy by 20 years was proof he was meant for something great. I always thought because he had touched people in the way he had, that this was his greatness. I believe differently now. Although I still believe the first to be true, I also believe he has made me who I am. He has inspired me to not only improve his life, but the lives of many others with special needs. I recently decided to open a day habilitation center for adults with special needs. We are officially Bub Town Learning Center, my overall goal is to create a town within the building. This would allow us to provide daily life skills training as well as job readiness training. A portion will eventually be open to the public and employ 60% of adults with special needs. With this very large vision of the future, I know I have to start small. I am starting out by teaching preparatory skills, domestic skills, and social training classes that are being held weekly. We are only using donated space in someone else's building until we can build up to my vision of the future. This fundraiser will help us to achieve our 501(3)(c) status, and will pay for our start up costs. Please if you share in this vision, help us to achieve our goal.
