Autism spectrum disorder is the most commonly occurring developmental disorder, affecting 1 in every 68 children (Center for Disease Control, 2014). Autism presents a vast range of challenges to children and their families. Early identification and intensive therapy are key elements used to maximize academic growth; however, this has proven to be overwhelming task for public school systems to undertake alone. That is where EIU's Autism Center comes into play. Our talented and dedicated faculty and staff provide essential evaluations and recommendations to help educators best serve the academic needs of individuals on the autism spectrum. Unfortunately, our resources are limited, restricting the number of families the Autism Center is able to serve. Families often have to be put on a waitlist, delaying services necessary to help the children learn, grow, and reach developmental milestones. With your help, we can expand our operations and reduce wait time for families, allowing them to embark on a new and promising journey with their child.
