Ava's 5K for Down Syndrome
Organized by: Maggie McKelvey
EVENT DATE May 06, 2017
Ava is 6 years old, lives in Mt. Airy, MD and was diagnosed with Down syndrome at birth. She attends Kindergarten, loves the color pink, Frozen, and her little brother, Michael. Ava is as typical as a little girl gets. The only thing that makes her “different” is an additional chromosome. As Ava grows, she continues to break barriers and stereotypes set by society. She captivates people with her contagious smile and huge personality causing those who meet her to fall in love.
Ava’s 5K for Down syndrome will foster inclusion through awareness of individuals with Down syndrome. This event will benefit families through Family Resource, Information & Education Network for Down Syndrome (F.R.I.E.N.D.S.), a Down syndrome advocacy group based in Frederick, MD, and the National Down Syndrome Society (NDSS), a national Down syndrome advocacy group based out of New York, NY. Our event will be held on May 6th 2017.
