Ava's Voice Shave-Off
Organized by: Tyler Posyton
EVENT DATE Aug 09, 2015
Summer is here, I've been thinking about getting a serious haircut and the only thing holding me back was the thought of the past 2 gruesome years growing it all out; now what, I'm just going to cut it off and call it a day? That didn't sit well with me so I thought about ways I could make it mean something. If you know me personally, you know how much I care about my hair and beard, so this was a tough decision. But, what I came up with is pretty damn rewarding.. I'm going to buzz my head and beard for charity.
I had no idea where to start. I looked into a few charities, there's millions to choose from, but I wanted something closer to home. I wanted to help a cause that was somehow tied into my life. That's when I thought of Ava and 'Ava's Voice'. Ava is the niece of a very close friend of mine, a real friend. It made perfect sense, 2 years of growing my hair wouldn't go to waste, I could actually help people!
So, join Beau (AKA @beauverine) and I on August 9th as we take the buzzers in. I will be buzzing my head and beard. My head hair will be donated to Pantene Beautiful Lengths. Beau will be shaving his legendary sideburns, if that's not motivation enough to donate to a good cause, I'm not sure what is!!
Here is Ava and the foundations story:
Ava is a nine year old little girl battling the effects of Usher Syndrome. Ava was born deaf and is now slowly going blind. Ava receives benefit from the use of her cochlear implants and can communicate with her hearing peers. She also travels with the use of a cane at night. Ava still does it all! She plays basketball, softball, horseback rides, and has a passion for art! She is learning to read Braille and has been an advocate in her local elementary school to teach her peers about her condition. Ava and her family have now started a non-profit organization called, "Ava's Voice", that will help all children and their families with hearing and/or vision loss. There are thousands of families out there who could use the help that Ava's Voice provides. http://avasvoice.org
Thank you for reading and thank you for whatever donations you are able to give.
