In 2015, AVDA provided 2,500 hours of counseling services to survivors, served more than 3,500 victims of domestic violence and povided 1,455 survivors with civil legal aid. 86% of AVDA clients felt safter because of AVDA services last year.
The mission of AVDA (Aid to Victims of Domestic Abuse) is to end family violence by advocating for the safety and self-determination of victims, promoting accountability for abusers and fostering a community response to abuse. AVDA is a unique non-profit that has served Houston for over 36 years. AVDA's main programs consist of the Legal Advocacy Program, Counseling and Outreach Services and AVDA's Battering Intervention and Prevention Program.

AVDA attorneys and paralegals provide free legal representation for survivors of abuse for protective orders, divorce, child custody and child support cases in Houston, Texas. Safety planning, referral, and emergency funding are also provided to survivors with low to moderate income.

AVDA's counselors provide counseling for individuals, groups, children, along with supportive guidance for those affected by abuse and those who wish to move forward with a violence-free life. Support groups are open to voluntary and mandated clients at no cost to the client.
It's your choice. Break the cycle • Battering Intervention and Prevention Program (BIPP)
AVDA provides psycho-educational counseling for individuals who have been abusive in the greater Houston area through nationally acclaimed BIPP -- the first in Texas to be fully accredited. This 18-week program has low-cost group sessions with a strong impact of abuse on children.
It's your future. Make it count • Youth and Outreach
Approximately one in three teenagers between the ages of 12 and 21 wil experience violence in dating relationships. AVDA works with at-risk youth across the greater Houston area to provide prevention and intervention to break the cycle of violence in their lives. AVDA provides presentations, workshops and programs across the country to heighten awareness about domestic violence.
