Donna Dixon wrote -Neill-TSP, an Aveda Distributor for the Southeast United States, is raising money in support of local conservation agencies. This is in alliance with Aveda's annual Clean Water Initiatives for Earth Month. Neill-TSP contributes funds raised to the Gulf Restoration Network and Lower Mississippi Riverkeeper.
Gulf Restoration Network is an organization dedicated to protecting and preserving the precious resources found in the Gulf of Mexico. Established in 1995, the organization determined seven priority issues of the gulf.
-Stopping Pollutant Discharges
-Reducing Polluted Runoff
-Reducing Corps of Engineers' permitting and projects destructive to the environnment.
-Requiring sustainable management of Gulf fisheries.
-Limiting coastal development, beach armoring, and resulting habitat destruction.
-Protection of threatened and endangered species.
-Limiting development of offshore mineral resources.
Lower Mississippi Riverkeeper is one branch of a family of organizations known as the Waterkeeper Alliance. LMR's primary focus in to protect, preserve, and restore the region known as the Mississippi River Basin. To accomplish this they:
-Recruit Activists to spur change
-Monitor and Investigate reports of damaging activities
-Target Polluters to insist compliance with the Clean Water Act
Both the Gulf Coast and the Mississippi River systems are major ecological and economical contributors to the Southeast United States. Clean water and conservation are necessary for the future and we need to act now to turn the dream into reality.
