BENEFITING: COTTONWOOD CHURCH
EVENT DATE: Oct 08, 2017
My name is Avelino “Allen” Mercado.
In 2015, I was diagnosed with Stage-4 soft tissue sarcoma on my arm and lungs. This is a rare type of cancer that doctors declare as “incurable”. However, because of my faith in God and because of family and friends who pray and support me, I am glad to say that I am winning this battle against this disease. All throughout my journey, God has been with me and my family, guiding us and opening doors to help us beat this disease.
I will be running a half marathon at the 2017 Long Beach Marathon & Half Marathon first and foremost to glorify my Lord for all that He has done for me and also to show all those who are in the same journey I am going through that there is always hope and that cancer is not a death sentence. We just need to press through this challenge with a positive attitude, to live a healthy lifestyle both physically and spiritually, and to have faith that God will get us through any difficult situation.
I am just one of many who is winning against this dreadful disease.
If I can conquer this, others also can.
I am also running with Cottonwood Church’s running team called Cottonwood Runners to raise awareness and support for local organizations that help those in need. This year we are working with the non-profit agency, Grateful Hearts with their Capacity Building Campaign. This project will help them to have more space so they can continue to provide food, clothing, household necessities, and programming for individuals and families lacking life’s basic essentials.
I would like to ask for your support by donating for our cause.
