Avery is a beautiful little girl - bright, bubbly, social and always with a smile on her face. She enjoys her life. But her life is different. Due to an undiagnosed neurological disorder, there is a disconnect between her mind and body. Her physical limitation means she has to work extremely hard to just move and she can’t speak, only communicating through her twinkling eyes and her radiant smile. Despite genetic testing and spinal punctures, botox and phenol injections to loosen the stiff muscles in her limbs along with countless hours of therapy – physical, occupational, speech and vision from an entire team of doctors – Avery’s day-to-day life improves at only a snail’s pace, one small achievement at a time. Still, she keeps smiling, making the most of her less than three years on Earth.
Thanks to the efforts of Shriners Hospitals for Children® — Salt Lake City, Avery has taken a test drive in a manual wheelchair. She absolutely loved it! She needs the wheelchair now. Next she will need an electric chair, then a van in which it can be carried. Even after insurance, the cost to her family is thousands - tens of thousands with a van! Added to that are the tens of thousands of dollars in medical bills for genetic testing and ongoing treatments to ensure that Avery can continue to enjoy life.
HOW TO HELP
Our Circle of Friends will conduct a fundraising campaign for Avery’s Chair, through the generosity of The Park City Foundation, to raise money to support Avery and her family. While the campaign will be ongoing, it will kickoff with a three-month outreach for Avery this summer from Memorial Day to Labor Day. There are a variety of ways you can help.
Donate a Prize
During the Avery’s Chair campaign this summer, Avery’s Circle of Friends are invited to donate an item that can be used as an incentive for donations. A new prize will be featured during each two-week period from Memorial Day to Labor Day. It’s an opportunity for you, as a member of Avery’s Circle of Friends, to show your love and support. It will also provide you the chance to share Avery’s Chair with your own friends during that two week period to encourage them to donate. Each donor during that two-week period will have an opportunity to have their name drawn to receive your generous donation.
Make a Donation
Your direct support in the form of a donation to Avery’s Chair will make a vital difference in her ability to grow up productively and enjoy life like the children around her.
Encourage Your Friends
Your support will make a difference. And so will the support of your friends. Tell Avery’s story to your friends and encourage them to contribute.
Avery’s story doesn’t just touch us here in Utah. You can grow Avery’s own Circle of Friends by sharing her story with others and encouraging them to do the same. Share the story on your Facebook, post a photo of Avery’s Chair to Pinterest. Send the story to your email contact list. Sharing and growing Avery’s Circle of Friends will make a difference in her life.
