Stuff About Me:

I am passionate about education and really interested in girls closing the GAP in STEM.

Audrey Hepburn once said, “A quality education has the power to transform societies in a single generation, provide children with the protection they need to from the hazards of poverty, labor exploitation and disease, and given them the knowledge, skills, and confidence to reach their full potential.”

Reaching their full potential!! Doesn't that sound GREAT!

This is why I am so happy to tutor middle school girls in Math in Science in my local area  as well as participate in various programs supporting Girls Education in developing world countries.

Why girls?

  • Research shows that educating girls can break cycles of poverty in just one generation.
  • An education empowers girls to pursue economic opportunities, marry and have children later, and make a      difference in their communities.
  • When there are so many barriers to education for these girls such as being forced to marry at an early age or even worse being subject to domestic slavery or human trafficking, I want to do what I can to help break down the barriers.

During Spring Break 2016, 25 Ninth Grade Students including me, and five faculty from The Bishop's School, La Jolla, will be visiting Cambodia. We are partnering with The Cambodian Village Fund (CVF), volunteering in their programs for part of our trip. Our goal is to raise $30,000 to support the work of CVF ($1,000 for each trip participant).

The funds we raise will be used to support two specific projects which are very important to me:

(1) Scholarships for girls in grades 7 through the 4th year in college. Experience has proven that one of the keys to igniting sustainable development and entrepreneurship in the developing world is educating girls, who are much more likely to pass on the benefits of their education to their families, their communities, and their future children. CVF currently supports 26 girls at an average cost of $1,000 per girl per year, which covers tuition, housing, groceries, school supplies, and access to laptops / smartphones.

(2) Equipping the new Library / Media Center at Prey Touch Secondary School (grades 7-9) - Book Shelves, Books, Posters, DVD player, Computers, LED screen, and Projector. Additional funds will be used to upgrade their computer lab and network, and add a broadband Internet connection.  I am very much looking forward to keeping in touch with these girls when I return to the states, so the computer network and internet connection will be a very important achievement.

I am paying for this trip using my own funds, and am asking for support to raise at least $1,000 more to cover the scholarships costs for at least one of these Cambodian girls.

The education of this one girl will have a positive impact on generations to come.  It feels so good to give!  Anything you can do to support this endeavor would mean so much to me.  If you are able, please click on the Donate Button on this page.

With much love,
