THE STORY:

Acupuncturists Without Border's mission is to reduce unresolved trauma and stress in communities impacted by natural disasters, violence and war. AWB provides direct clinical services to veterans, first responders, refugees, survivors of sexual and domestic violence, and other trauma-impacted communities to help resolve PTSD, chronic pain and substance dependence. AWB also trains acupuncturists, both in the U.S. and globally, to provide trauma treatment in their own communities.

THE MILITARY STRESS RECOVERY PROJECT
The Military Stress Recovery Project (MSRP), created by Acupuncturists Without Borders (AWB), provides veterans, active duty military personnel, and their families with free community acupuncture for treatment of PTSD, chronic pain and substance use. Guided by a pilot veterans clinic in Albuquerque, New Mexico which started in October, 2006, there are now over 30 MSRP clinic sites across the United States. AWB is providing regular training and support to the leaders of these unique free clinics, and more clinics will be opening soon. A new AWB clinic prototype that provides acupuncture to women veterans who have suffered the dual burden of PTSD related to combat and military sexual trauma, opened in Albuquerque in April, 2013.
Veterans who receive acupuncture often experience immediate benefits, such as a full night’s sleep for the first time in years and fewer bad dreams. Over time they report improved mental clarity, less anxiety and depression, as well as improved family, workplace and social relationships. Many report that their chronic pain patterns improve and that they are less dependent on prescription and recreational drugs. AWB has received testimonials from all over the country about the tremendous impact MSRP clinics are having on veterans who attend. AWB has created a unique Field Manual for acupuncturists implementing this program and is providing assistance and support for teams forming clinics around the country. The Military Stress Recovery Project is supported by AWB membership and training programs, grants and private sector donations.
Please visit the AWB website for a list of current clinics and for more testimonials, http://www.acuwithoutborders.org/msrpclinics.php.
