BENEFITING: ABUNDANT WATERS
Abundant Waters uses every dollar it receives to provide programming to children in two Title I public schools in New York City's Hell's Kitchen. During critical unstructured - and, for many of these children, unsupervised - time after school and during school breaks, Abundant Waters provides free homework assistance, sports, chess, drama, dance, music and arts programs in a safe and enriching environment. The program began 19 years ago with 12 kids and one dance class. Today, Abundant Waters serves over 100 children in two schools year-round. Over 10 years ago, I was drawn to get involved through my friendship with one of the co-founders, Marlie Buehler. Ten years later, and almost twenty after she founded AW, Marlie is more devoted than ever.
The program is vital, necessary, inspiring, joyful and deeply impactful. I'll be swimming, biking and running the Danskin Triathlon on September 9, 2012 at Sandy Hook, NJ as a fundraiser for Abundant Waters. I've been grateful to serve as a board member of AW for quite some time. I would be grateful for your support, too!
