I am an Afghan woman, I started my work as Women Social Organizer in 2003. It was very difficult to work as young as a 19 years old girl, in the rural areas and with conservative minded people, when I started my work , on that in most of the provinces in Afghanistan women were not allowed to go outside of their homes, except some emergencies (sickness and other) without their male counterparts, girls were not attending school and there were no one women employee in most of the districts. I have given my more than 12 years of my life serving Afghan Women and Girls as working for women has its own challenges and issues. It needs lots efforts and work to overcome to those challenges. considering those issues I want to be part this great platform, as the StartingBloc class of DC ‘15, it will provide me the opportunity to meet and greet with different cultures and people, which will help me to build up my broad knowledge on different culture and ethnicity from around the world. Their experiences and skills will boost my skills and knowledge which may end up bring positive changes in to women and girls lives in Afghanistan. It’s obvious that more efforts need to be focused on investment in women and girls, because they play a pivotal role in the development process. In order to support them, one needs to strong enough to fight for them and their rights. That is why I hoping to be selected in this program, but attending this program need a huge amount of money, which I am not able to cover the expense of this program. Therefore, I am creating this page to be able to raise fund and be at StartingBloc class of DC ‘15. I really thanks those who will support me in this regard and their attention towards Afghan Women! Best regards Aziza Zareh
