Baato documentary film
Deep in the Himalayan mountains the first road is coming, and this new highway to China will forever change Nepali village life.
“Baato” (n. [Nepali] 1. path, trail 2. road) presents overlapping narratives that focus on everyday Nepalis who live along the route of a planned transnational highway. Through the character’s experiences a document of a time and place emerges - one that details life in the Himalayas before a new highway to China transforms this roadless landscape.
Currently in post-production, this feature length documentary film was filmed from October 2014 to June 2015 in the Arun River valley in eastern Nepal, in the same region that the KTK-BELT vertical university is being developed.
We strongly believe that this is a vital project for the region as when the road is completed, as depletion of resources and biodiversity is one of the major threats that the new road will pose. Protection of natural resources begins with education.
