Baby Evelynn Rose Pierce and Family
Organized by: Kim Smith Pierce
In Oct. of 2015 our daughter became pregnant. It was an unexpected surprise as she is 17. She worked hard to graduate early in Dec. and continued on to find employment, enroll in college, purchase her own vehicle, and set up a path of success for herself and her child. We found that our insurance would not cover her pregnancy and tried to apply for state help for her only to be denied. In Jan. we had her second sonogram in hopes of finding out the sex and celebrating. What we found was much different. Her baby had gastroschisis, where the intestines on the outside. This took us into the journey of special doctors and hospitals hours away and appts 2-3 times a week. In the process of it all my husband became ill with his Tourette's Syndrome and his medication is not working. He is on short term disability which has put us in a horrendous financial bind. On May 18th my daughter delivered her daughter with intestines, bladder, stomach, and kidney outside and she was taken to surgery. Our family is struggling to pay for the medical bills and traveling expenses and just daily needs of staying 2 hours away from home. Any help is appreciated as our journey is just beginning with this baby. They are expecting her to be in the hospital at least another 6 weeks if not longer depending on if her bowels work.
