Baby Will Reidhead expenses
Organized by: alitti damien
My Brother-In-Law, Benjamin Reidhead , and Sister-In-Law, Alyssa Reidhead , found out they were pregnant, and were thrilled! At the 20 week ultrasound, they discovered that his brain was growing outside his skull and that there was no skull on the back of his head. He was diagnosed (after many doctor appointments, and ultrasounds) with encephalocele. They saw so many specialists and doctors through their ordeal. They made MANY trips from Rexburg, ID (where they reside) to Salt Lake City, UT for the specialists at the University of Utah hospital, and Primary Children's Hospital. Through all these visits, they were told that the baby wouldn't make it to 30 weeks, and if it did go beyond, it probably wouldn't live more than a minute or two. Alyssa began writing a blog to help with the sadness, and to document their journey. You can read more about their story here. (babywillblog.wordpress.com) They made arrangements for the funeral and burrial, because the doctors were sure that he wouldn't survive. They made their birth plan, and they were going to try to have a few minutes to hold him before he passed away. On May 17th William Adroaldo Reidhead weighed in at 6 pounds 12 ounces born at 10:04am via C-section. MIRACULOUSLY, He was born crying and didn't needed any help breathing. He is strong, grabbing at blankets, lifting his head, and reacting to voices. He was re-diagnosed with an even MORE RARE disease called Cutis Aplasia or Aplasia Cutis Congenita. He is missing the whole back of his skull, and there is just a membrane that is covering the brain....but the brain is not sticking out of the skull! He was transferred to Primary Children's Hospital while they try to figure out what to do to protect his head, and what surgeries are needed. He has been laying on his tummy to protect his head so he's been feeling a little uncomfortable. He cries and tries to move over. Will also had an MRI to assess the situation. They have a REALLY long road ahead of them. They are both college students, and Ben is the provider for their family. They had thought this would be a quick birth and death...but Will is defying all the odds! He will potentially be at the hospital for months. They have the struggle of being residents of Idaho, but their baby is in the hospital in Utah....They do have a place to stay while he's in there. Because they didn't plan on him surviving, there were no baby showers, or anything planned or purchased. The money will be used for things for Will: a car seat, clothes, diapers, wipes, and medical expenses. This will mean so much to them! This is their first child, and they are on quite the adventure. Anything you can give will be so appreciated! They are so grateful that they will have their son, against all the odds, but your donation will help them through this turbulent time in their journey. I know that miracles can happen...because we have witnessed it with this baby! Thank you for your generosity! I know they will put it to good use for baby Will. Thank you so much!!!
