On any given night, there are over 78,000 veterans on the streets of America, men and women who have served this Nation, who now need us to serve them. Now in our 6th year, Veterans Alliance of Southern California has placed over 400 sleeping bags, 1000 coats, unknown numbers of blankets.., all to keep someone from dying just because they are cold. We started Baby, It's Cold as a response to our outreach and children in our area finding a homeless woman ... frozen in her wet blankets... on their way to school one winter morning. ANY ONE we meet during outreach is offered these LIFE SAVING supplies, while we work to locate the veteran and family that we can assist back into stable housing. We have successfully rehoused 43 veteran families (yes, families with children on the streets), over 72 single veterans, and reunited 19 veterans with their families. NO ONE SHOULD DIE BECAUSE THEY ARE COLD. NOT IN AMERICA.
Together we can buy more sleeping bags, socks, hoodies, jackets... and serve those who first served us... and the people they served and now often guard, their homeless and less fortunate in American cities, large and small.
