I started volunteering with Back on My Feet about five years ago when they opened a chapter in NYC. Back on My Feet combats homelessness through the power of running, community support, and essential employment and housing resources. When I first heard about the organization, I didn't quite understand the concept of how running can help homeless people, formerly incarcerated people, recovering addicts, etc get back on their feet. But, one step at a time, putting one foot in front of the other, lives are improved. These men and women first make a commitment to show up, then they take their first step, which leads to their first mile, which leads to their first race (maybe a 5k) then before you know it, they have the "I can do all things" confidence! WOW!!. But running is only one component. After completing ninety percent attendance in the program, the residents receive job counseling, financial literacy counseling, they receive financial aid to help them complete schooling, find housing, the list goes on and on. Many of our alumni members come back to help coach new residents. Again, WOW!
We are doing great work, but we need your help to continue. Please use donate to my fundracing campaign. Every dollar counts toward my goal of $3000! And if you are unable to give at this moment, please say a prayer for me on November 5th. Thank you for your love and support!
