BENEFITING: HELPS EDUCATION FUND
It’s Back to School time, and we hope all children will thrive this school year. I hope you will join us in ensuring students have the resources and support they need to improve their reading.
Too many children are not reading proficiently by the end of 3rd grade.
In North Carolina, only 38% of 4th grade students are proficient in reading and in Wake County Public Schools 43% of students need additional, targeted help in order to succeed in reading.
This means, 65,190 Wake County students are not on the path to be prepared for college or career by their expected graduation date.
The best thing that can happen for these children is for all of us to work together to ensure effective strategies are in place to help a child succeed.
Helps Education Fund does this by recruiting and training volunteers to provide the HELPS One-to-One reading program to student who need additional support. This past year, we trained 65 volunteers who worked with 85 students - across 5 elementary schools and 2 after-school sites. • 60% of our students who received HELPS made meaningful growth in reading.
Contribute to our Back to School Appeal and make a difference for children this school year.
