Back to Work
Organized by: Joseph Catrambone
Eight years ago, I was told that I had a seizure disorder and would never be able to work again. I became dependent on Social Security Disability. My wife divorced me stating that she didn't marry to take care of someone. I have been struggling on $815.00/month. I knew I had too much enthusiasm and talent to give to the troubled youth I had been teaching for over 20 years. Since them, by working with doctors, have worked hard to minimize the impact of my disabilities. I am ready to return to working with disadvantaged youth. I no longer want to live off of the government. I need two things to actualize this goal. First, I need $700.00 to update my teaching and administrative credentials. Next, my professional clothing was destroyed in a flood. I need to get clothing to go on interviews and, God willing, to wear on the job. I hope to get a job teaching emotionally disturbed teenagers in the city and participate in programs such as "Becoming a Man" (B.A.M.). I also have an interest in working with the City of Chicago to develop and participate in programs for at-risk youth for the reduction of crime and violence in our city.
