Backpacks for Kids
Organized by: Erin Murphy
The chaos in the world lately is overwhelming. Every time we turn on the news there is another terrorist attack or natural disaster killing so many people. If you are like me, you feel helpless and sad and not sure what to do. I have learned that making change doesn't take a huge commitment or much effort at all. It is the little gestures that make a big difference. I was in Target yesterday and I walked past the backpacks already displayed with the school supplies. It made me think how much I enjoyed flipping through the L.L. Bean catalogs with my children and choosing a new monogrammed bag and matching lunch box each year. My children loved having a new bag and filling it with sharp pencils and shiny folders. Not every kid gets to enjoy that feeling and it would be so easy for us to make that a reality for so many. If you donate just $30 I can buy a backpack and fill it with supplies and a book. I will collect money through the month of July and start buying the supplies and assembling the bags to be ready for August. There are many local organizations who work directly with the families in our neighborhood and they can assist me in distributing them. Help me put a smile on a kids face.
