Backpacks For the Homeless
Organized by: B Cason
Every day, at least once, I encounter homeless people in my community either panhandling for anything they can get or trying to stay cool in this retched Phoenix sun. I don't know about you but when I see someone in need, I want to help. When I see them, I think to myself, "What will my few dollars really do to help this person today?" No matter how I handle the situation, I always wish I could have done more. I started to pray that the Lord would put on my heart, a way to really help and that is where Backpacks for the Homeless was born. I will use donations of money, food, backpacks, and other essentials to fill each backpack with water and food like cereal, a bowl and utensils, canned chili and other non perishable foods. I would also like to include circle k gift cards where they might be able to buy milk for their cereal or more water. The backpacks will also include personal hygiene items like deodorant, soap, toothbrush and toothpaste, a laundry card in small amounts for the local laundry mats so they can wash their clothes. They will also include items such as hats to block from the sun. In addition to money, I would gladly accept donations of canned goods, backpacks or anything else. I would also love any cool patches that I can sew onto the backpacks, especially anything for our veterans! You can email me at firstname.lastname@example.org. I am trying to raise a lot of money so that I can keep 8 backpacks in my trunk at all times. I would love to be able to hop out of the car at any time and grab a backpack full of hopefully enough food for a week and other things that might help make their days a little brighter.
