As many of you know, I spent three months last year in Kenya teaching and coaching through the Education Department at Lewa Wildlife Conservancy. I completely fell in love with the country, people and the wildlife. Every year the Tusk Trust and Lewa Wildlife Conservancy put on the Safaricom Marathon that is held on Lewa Wildlife Conservancy. The proceeds of the race go to a variety of different projects. So this year I have decided to make the trip and participate in the marathon. I thought this race would be the perfect opportunity to raise money for such wonderful organizations that do work that is close to my heart.
Here is a bit of info on these wonderful organizations and what your donations are supporting: Tusk Trust and Lewa Wildlife Conservancy have always shared a common goal to use wildlife conservation as a catalyst to alleviate poverty, reduce conflict, and improve education and livelihoods in rural areas rich in biodiversity. Every year, proceeds from the Safaricom Marathon event are invested in a wide range of projects benefiting sustainable development, education, healthcare, and wildlife. The clear aim is to balance the needs of rural communities with the objective of preserving Kenya's unique natural heritage for future generations. Through grants funded by the marathon, literally thousands of Kenyans have benefitted through schools, hospitals, as well as community and conservation projects.
