Balanced Trainer charged with cruelty for the tools I use
Organized by: Sean Stanton
THE STORY:
I have been a balanced trainer for nearly 9 yrs. 50% of my career has been dedicated to shelter/rescue dogs in "urgent" situations. Most times these urgent cases have been pro bono. Being a balanced trainer, I use many tools. Along with these life saving tools comes back lash from pure positive advocates. These advocates and anti tool groups gained the support of my local animal law enforcement. I am being charge with 1 count animal cruelty for leaving a muzzle ( javco clear with XL feeding circle cut out ~ for water and food) on a human/dog aggressive dog for 6 days. At all times the dog was in my training facility with ample bedding, free access to water, 2 walks per day on leash, hand fed and daily contact with owners. This particular dog had numerous bites to dogs, family, trainers and a school bus. Local animal law enforcement in combination with these advocates have caused me to close my business. I have been summons to court on June 13th facing 1 felony animal cruelty charge. The lawyer that came highly recommended is very confident his firm will clear my name ~ "this is a witch hunt". I need help with the flat fee legal cost.... I carry extremely high insurance for liability due to the type of dogs I deal with. Never in a million years did I expect to have the best criminal lawyer on retainer.. The 100's and 100's of dogs I have rehabilitated I never anticipated such an event as this. We know we can't save them all. We try....and try....consult with colleges, research another approach. There are so few dogs that we recommend sanctuary or euthanasia. THIS was one of those dogs. More and more we hear of balanced trainers being charged for using tools, hate blogs promoted by anti corrective advocates, threats online against our lives. THIS is the class of advocates I am challenged with. PLEASE...if you believe in Balanced Training and preserving the tools we use, Muzzle, Ecollar, Prong, Food....help me defend my career, my passion. My lawyers name is Steven Power of Aitken, Chacharone and Power, P.C. Worcester, Ma. I have to submit the balance in full prior to June 13th's court date. I can be reached by phone if you want to ask questions....I am so very thankful to all my clients and supporters.
