BENEFITING: ONE HORIZON BANGLADESH INC
One Horizon Bangladesh is raising money to help Bali Life Foundation, an Australian based non profit organization working in Bali, Indonesia to help improve the quality of life for women and children, foster education, and eradicate hunger and lack of healthcare. Please help us help them to raise money for their newest project, a social initiative for widows in Balinese society, who are frequently outcast and in life-threatening danger after being widowed.
Bali Life Widow’s Home- New Frontiers of Compassion and Restoration
It was not until the early 20th century that the practice of burning widows was officially abolished in Bali. Widows with young children are in an extremely vulnerable situation, which not only compromises their own wellbeing, but also that of their children. A cycle of exploitation and poverty results in great harm as children fall prey to innumerable risk factors associated with inadequate care and social stigma in a developing nation.
Bali Life Foundation has seen the profound impact that security and a loving home environment can have upon the children currently in their care. They now have the opportunity to extend the same restorative environment to entire family units within their proposed Bali Life Widow’s Home.
With the growth in the Bali Life children’s home and the establishment of the new facility, the original land has become available for this new venture. The initial vision is for 10 widows with young children to be housed within the original facility. Beyond the security of housing, nutrition and a restorative environment, Bali Life will equip them with practical skills to enhance their future employment prospects and also to benefit their communities of origin.
Conclusion - Our Need for Partners
Bali Life Foundation anticipates a number of expenses related to this project, which are currently beyond their financial capacity. These include both initial capital expenditure items, and ongoing costs associated with the running of the Bali Life Widow’s Home.
1. Widows’ Shelter
Initial upfront capital requirement is for the payment of an additional 2 years lease on the land for the existing facility, which will house this work. We anticipate that the cost of this will be $12,000. This rent will be due on July 2012.
2. Operational Cost
Ongoing costs for the project are substantially reduced by our successful farming operation, which will supply fresh produce and meat to the home. There are, however, other food items, utility, and staffing costs which we anticipate. Current estimate of these ongoing costs is approximately $1600 per month.
We would welcome your involvement in partnering with us to raise the requisite funds for this element of the project. Without a doubt it is one of the most tangible, practical, and important means by which you can work alongside us to bring hope, joy, and the restoring power of family to some of Bali’s most vulnerable individuals and families.
