Dombolo Runs for the Colour Kwa Face Campaign
Organized by: Steve Dombolo Giteri
EVENT DATE Nov 22, 2014
I run and completed the Baltimore Full Marathon in support for Colour Kwa Face Campaign but still need more donations to meet the fund raising target. There is still a great need to I have registered for the The 2014 TCS Annapolis Running Classic Half Marathon on 11/22/2014 to continue raising funds and awarness about our cause
Please take the time to watch youtube video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7BLmU8dhk28 that highlights the plight of these children. Please donate as you heart leads you but remember some young children living with Albinism stand to benefit greatly. Thank you.
Last year in August 2013, I had the opportunity to participate in the “I support The Colour Kwa Face Campaign” walk in support of Persons with Albinism by sensitizing the public on Albinism as well as providing supplies critical to them i.e. Sunscreen Lotion, Glasses and Hats to protect them from the suns ultra violet rays which causes Skin Cancer. 2014 marks the third year of various events, whose aim is to raise funds to provide critical supplies to individuals with Albinism. Colour Kwa Face Campaign is also paying school fees for Orphans with Albinism who cannot afford to pay for themselves. Unfortunately, corporate sponsorship and donor funding have not been easy to secure. As a result, these supplies cannot reach the people who are in most need.
As a believer and donor to this cause, I have decided to go the extra mile to raise funds for the Colour Kwa Face Foundation. On the 18th of October 2014, I will be running the Baltimore Full Marathon (26.2 miles) to raise funds for and create awareness about the Colour Kwa Face Foundation and Albinism
Albinism is a condition characterized by the complete or partial absence of pigment in the skin, hair and eyes due to absence or defect of an enzyme involved in the production of melanin. Thus, the most critical care of people living with albinism is to protect their skin against direct sunlight. During the day, they have to wear hats, sunglasses and, most importantly, apply sunscreen with a high sun protection factor (SPF). Unfortunately, these sunscreens are expensive and way out of the reach of many Kenyans. The cost for Sunscreen lotions with an SPF of 30-50 cost as much as 1000Kshs which is roughly $10. Continued unprotected exposure to the sun leads to skin cancer, creating an even bigger challenge. Sunscreens save lives.
About the Colour Kwa Face Foundation
The Color Kwa Face Foundation exists to promote, via advocacy and education, the well-being of albino persons who are often marginalized and misunderstood. The Foundation supplies sunscreen lotion to those Albinos who are unable to afford it because it is considered a luxury item, far out of their reach. For Albinos, in most cases, lack of sunscreen lotion leads to skin cancer for Albinos.
