BENEFITING: DETERMINED2HEAL FOUNDATION INC
EVENT DATE: Oct 17, 2015
I’m excited to be running in my first marathon this October in Baltimore in support of a charity started by my dear friend, Josh Basile.
Josh and I met as classmates at University of Maryland in 2009. The teacher in the class loved Josh and I was psyched to be paired with him as a note taker for the semester. A few weeks into our friendship, Josh shared with me the heart-wrenching story of his family beach trip in 2004 that took a turn for the worse. While swimming in the surf, Josh was picked up by a single wave sent headfirst into the sand. The impact left him paralyzed from the shoulders down and forever changed his life.
But Josh was determined to not let his injuries define him. After months of rehabilitative therapy, he resumed his pursuit of a degree from University Maryland and graduated cum laude. From there he went on to study law at the University of D.C', graduating in 2013 magna cum laude. After passing the bar, Josh became a trail attorney in DC specializing in medical malpractice and personal injury cases.
Most notable in Josh’s litany of accomplishments is his role as founder of the non-profit Determined To Heal, an organization created to to help simplify the transition into life with paralysis. The foundation works tirelessly to provide information and advice for people with spinal cord injuries as well as their families and friends. Determined To Heal also coordinates incredible rehabilitative adventures to show people with living with paralysis anything is still possible. Everything from adaptive sailing and skiing to golf outings and hang gliding.
Running a marathon has been a lifelong goal of mine. When thinking of fundraising ideas to support me throughout my training, I couldn’t think of a single person that embodied emotional and physical perseverance more than Josh.
My goal is to fundraise $1,500 - enough to fund three rehabilitative adventures for families and friends with loved one living with paralysis.

Thank you all in advance for your support. I’ll be thinking of you on the course!
