ORGANIZER: Brooklyn Academy of Music
EVENT: BAM 24-Hour Movie Marathon
EVENT DATE: Sep 05, 2014
TL:DR? Raising money for BAM Education (arts programs for kids) by watching 24 hrs of movies. Help by making a contribution.
Think back to when you walked into a theater, sat down, and watched the drama unfold as you saw your first play. Or the first time you heard an orchestra perform right in front of you. Or the first time you went to a museum - any museum. Chances are you saw or heard something pretty amazing and might have even been in awe of the incredibly creativity of which human being are capable.
Now imagine if you never had that exposure. You never got to see a great work of art in person, experience the thrill of a live performance of a play or orchestral work. Think about how much smaller the world would seem.
In a city like New York, where there is a seemingly endless supply of arts performances, there are too many kids who don't have access to any of it.
And that's where a place like BAM comes in.
To help fund their arts education programs for kids - including a free afterschool program called Arts & Justice for high schoolers that includes a social justice component - BAM (the Brooklyn Academy of Music) is holding a 24 hour movie marathon fundraiser. For someone like me, it's a win/win. I get to raise money for something I believe in AND I get to fulfill a lifelong dream of spending 24 hours straight watching movies.
Every dollar I raise - i.e. every dollar YOU contribute - goes straight to fund BAM's programs, having a real impact on the lives so many young people in NYC.
So help me help kids by helping me by contributing to this fundraiser.
Thank you so much in advance for your generosity!
PS - And yes, I promise to live tweet it all so you can pinpoint the moment when I totally should have gone to bed.
