EVENT DATE: MAY 8-9
Dear Friends: As a mother, nothing scares me more than having one of my children sick - be it asthma or an anaphalactic allergic response or pneumonia. I am fortunate that my children are pretty healthy. I cannot imagine the worry and stress of having a child with a life-threatening illness. As both a mom and a diabetes educator, I really want to support the families of children with serious illnesses. These kids should have the same wonderful opportunity that ours do to attend camp, have fun, and forget about illness for a little while.
In fact, I am inspired by a family I know whose child was very sick and had the opportunity to attend the Hole in the Wall Gang camp in Ashford CT. This camp provides a 'different kind of healing' to 30,000 kids each year who suffer from serious illnesses. The aim of the Hole in the Wall gang camp is to provide a FREE week of camp (100% donation-sponsored) to seriously ill children, all while maintaining whatever medical treatment the children need. The camp accomodates medical needs and physical disabilities. They have a state-of-the-art medical facility where (for example) chemotherapy can be administered. This little girl I know beat cancer. Amen! I am sure the camp support the whole family received was of tremendous value.
So I have decided to run a race for charity this year to support sending more kids to the Hole in the Wall Gang Camp. I am running in the Ragnar Cape Cod relay race on May 8-9. This race is a 200-mile team relay race which we will complete in ~24 hours. I am thrilled to be participating in what is sure to be a super-fun experience but I am even more excited about raising money for this awesome camp.
How can you help? Please donate to team Hole in the Wall Gang Camp via CrowdRise - a great and simple way to donate on-line. You'll be supporting my run but more importantly, you'll be helping a family send a sick child to camp. Every little bit helps. THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!
