EVENT DATE Nov 22, 2015

THE STORY:

On April 7, 2015, Tamarindo lost a great a man.  In many ways. Barry Lawson was a beloved husband and father, local business leader, philanthropist and true friend. Many thought of him as the 'Grandfather of Tamarindo' - a moniker that would have caused him to break out in one of his huge smiles. A smile that touched everyone he met - particularly the children of schools around Guanacaste as he worked to improve the chances of the next generation. For those of us who knew Barry, this is how we will remember him.

He and his wife Suzye were robbed in a violent attack at their hotel on April 1, resulting in severe injuries that tragically ended up taking Barry's life. During the robbery, the thieves took more than $30,000 from the couple's safe, $22,000 of which belonged to the charity they founded 16 years ago, Amigos de la Educacion.

Donations are being accepted via two separate funds to help Amigos recoup their scholarship funds and to help the family with the significant financial losses they also suffered as a result of the robbery. To make a donation Amigos, please click on the Amigos de La Educacion Fund below. To provide support for the family during this difficult time, please click on the Barry Lawson Memorial Fund below.

As Barry's son Jered reminded us at his father's passing, Barry would have wanted that something positive would have come out of any tribulation. Let us remember Barry, his smile and his huge presence in the community.  Let us find new ways to keep our community safe, secure and help build the new generation through the ongoing work of Amigos de La Educacion.  Please help us show what a strong community we are and how we can come together and be even stronger after this great loss. Your support is greatly appreciated.
