As college students, it is important to think outside our world and help our community. Many of us have busy schedules, making it easy to forget that there are others around us who are not as fortunate. The statistics on homelessness in New York is staggering. According to the NYC Department of Homelessness, in 2017 there are over 22,000 children living in homeless families and the homeless population has doubled between 2008 and 2016. By meeting the needs of homeless children, we are able to help them establish a sense of normalcy.
As New Yorkers, we have the opportunity to help those in need and give back to our community.
“The best way to not feel hopeless is to get up and do something. Don’t wait for good things to happen to you. If you go out and make some good things happen, you will fill the world with hope, you will fill yourself with hope.”
- Barack Obama
