Thank you for visiting my fundraising site! My goal is to raise $4,500 to contribute to the construction of a secondary school in the Everest region of rural Nepal and also to help me go to Basa to build the school.
I'm currently working towards my Master of Architecture at the University of Colorado Denver. I am a member of the Denver Chapter of Architecture for Humanity- a nonprofit organization that provides architecture and design services to under-served populations both locally and internationally. We've been working with the nonprofit Edge of 7 to design & build a 4 classroom school in Basa, a village about 10 miles outside Kathmandu.
Currently, there is one higher secondary school in the Everest region of Nepal to serve 34 villages and a total population of 107,686 people. Because girls have the responsibility of gathering water, cooking and cleaning their homes before and after school, most are dropping out before they reach high school because the long hike to school is just too much to accomplish in a day. The Government of Nepal recently approved the addition of a second higher secondary school in Basa, one of the largest communities with a population of approximately 4,000, to educate 150 students per year. This will bring the opportunity of continuing their education much closer to home for the girls of this village & those nearby. In addition to building four classrooms, we will build a bathroom facility containing six toilets since the campus does not have adequate sanitation.
Visit Edge of Seven's page to see others stories of their trip to Nepal. Please consider donating toward my $4500 goal. Help send me to Basa to help build this school March 9-26, a portion of what I raise will also go towards the construction cost of the school.
