Basic Income Experiment
Organized by: Tom Violett
We all know to different extents that things have gotten much worse for the average American. I was laid off from the Construction Industry in 2008 as were millions of others and all the middle class achievements I made came crashing down around me. But what happened next was what has led me to writing this some 7 years later. Namely, my wife and I, as we went thru the struggles of securing healthcare for ourselves and our two children, securing food stamps, finding places that donated food, looking for work and struggling for a year to pay the mortgage with unemployment and help of family had an epiphany. We were no longer afraid. We were hit with the worst (not the worst, but our worst) and knew things would be okay. I want all people to feel this way. That no matter what, they have the support they need, A BASIC INCOME to live without fear. This amount spread over six months will allow me to see if it will allow me to secure an alternative career. I will keep track of the experiment as I am trained in Anthropology and report my results to anyone interested. Thank you!!
