BENEFITING: TENNESSEE VIETMAN VETERANS INC
EVENT DATE: Jan 20, 2015
Statistics Don’t Lie.
More American service members (both active duty and veterans) have committed suicide over the past decade than all of those who made the supreme sacrifice in Iraq and Afghanistan combined!
• Out of six anxiety diagnoses, PTSD was significantly associated with suicidal attempts.
• 22 veterans commit suicide per day, 8,030 per year (not including attempts).
• More than 70% of those suicides were aged 50 years or older
• Male veterans under the age of 30 who commit suicide has jumped 44%
But, to help our military and veteran brothers and sisters who are suffering – we need your help!
Tennessee Vietnam Veterans, Inc. (TVVI) is organizing and planning a series of PTSD & Suicide Prevention Town Hall Meetings across the Volunteer state which will focus on PTSD and veteran suicides. These Town Hall Meetings will be an opportunity for veterans and their families to learn more about PTSD, hear success stories, learn of available treatment opportunities, and to allow attendees to speak with treatment providers and Veteran Service Officers about the potential for VA benefits.
Our objective is to help getting veterans out of the shadows and to not be ashamed to reveal or afraid to work-on resolving any PTSD-related issues by contacting the multitude of resources available. We can also hopefully guide them toward understanding that they have much to give to their families and society. Also, it’s important that we shine the light on working toward heading off the growing epidemic of suicide among veterans.
TVVI is passionate about the battle against the rising suicide rate – and is determined to reach out to active-duty military, veterans and their families - but we need your support.
The first in our series of PTSD & Suicide Prevention Town Hall Meetings is scheduled for Tuesday, December 2nd in Knoxville, TN, 6PM – 9PM at Washington Pike United Methodist Church,
But, we need your help in this battle. TVVI is a 501(c)3 non-profit veterans organization, and all contributions are tax deductible as allowed by law.
When called to duty, Tennessee Vietnam Veterans answered. Now, we as citizens, together, must answer the call of our fellow veterans and brothers and sisters in arms in their darkest hour of need.
