WHY SAVE BATS?
Bats are clean, gentle and intelligent, they are vital to the ecosystem, and they enhance our lives in many ways. Fruit and nectar bats bring us approximately 450 commecial products and over 80 different medicines through seed dispersal and pollination. Up to 98% of all rainforest regrowth comes from seeds that have been spread by fruit bats. Insect-eating bats are literal vacuum cleaners of the night skies, eating millions upon millions of harmful bugs. They protect us by eating insect-pests that destroy crops as well as insects that cause human disease.
WHY HELP US WIN?
In the past four years dozens of bat zoo exhibits have closed, leaving hundreds of bats in dire need of sanctuary. Sadly, many of these bats end up in the exotic pet trade where their 25 year life expectancy is often cut short to less than a year. Some spend the remainder of their lives in tiny bird-cages in a living room, while others end up in cramped, filthy cages in basements or roadside zoos. Worse, some end up being sacrificed in rituals.
Bat World Sanctuary desperately needs to expand in order to take in more of these helpless animals, before a worse fate befalls them. The new Bat World facility will include expansive indoor-outdoor flight enclosures for the bats, and give them the peace and happiness they so deserve. Please check out the photos on this page to see bats that have already found happiness at Bat World Sanctuary.
Our new facility would also be capable of housing assurance colonies of bat species in jeopardy of extinction due to White Nose Syndrome, and keep them safe until a cure is found and the environment is cleansed.

Thank you, so much, on behalf of the bats who desperately need your help.
