Project Objectives:
· To help earthquake victims build brand new homes using indigenous,
eco friendly materials
· To encourage “bayanihan” by requiring beneficiaries for “capital” counterpart such as labor and some materials.
· Create concrete, long term help through a livelihood concept based on the skills of the beneficiaries and the available raw materials within the community.
Brief Description of the Bayanihan Kubo Housing Project
The Bayanihan Kubo Housing Project intends to build a 4x5- meter bahay kubo (nipa hut), with 1 bedroom unit, a water sealed toilet with its own septic tank, with own “abohan” or kitchenette for firewood cooking for the earthquake victims of Balilihan, Bohol. Coco lumber will be used as main foundation of the house. The flooring will be made of cement and its first level walling will be made of concrete. The double walling comprised ofamakan which will then be put on top of the first level concrete.
Bamboos and Coco lumber are sturdy yet flexible eco friendly materials which will merely sway
or dance during earthquake. It can withstand up to signal number 2 typhoon. For only 18,000
pesos (419 USD) you get to help victims build their new homes and start anew.
Those victims whose homes were totally damaged, and could not afford to build their own
homes will be prioritized. The houses will be built on lands where the old homes used to stand
to make sure that the farmers stay close to their farmlands, unless the old area is no longer safe for habitation. In that case the home shall be built in a safer area.
Long Term Solution- A Livelihood Concept Tailor fit to the skills and availability of materials within the community.
Each house is approximately $634.00.
