The Bay Area Alliance for Youth and Families is a community coalition that has been serving the Bay Area of Houston for more than 13 years. We do this through initiatives such as Medication Take Backs that provide the much-needed opportunity for folks to empty their medicine cabinets of old or expired medications for proper disposal. We've collected over 12,500 pounds of medications in these twice-yearly events since 2010. We also have a campaign called "Be the Reason" to encourage parents to be the reason our kids don't drink alcohol. This campaign features various community groups as the face of this initiative in local publications each month.
The Alliance also coordinates a project which is part of the Texas Healthy Adolescent initiative at Clear View HS. This project pairs youth and adults who are working on risk factors like substance abuse, mental health, and transition to adulthood through the Student Adult Leadership Service Alliance.
