It's that time again- Bay to Breakers! This year, Daraja Academy is an official partner of the Bay to Breakers. Having been inspired by last year's incredible support, the race sponsors (Zazzle) asked us to join as a partner. http://zazzlebaytobreakers.com/index.php?page=beneficiaries. This year, we are racing for 104 Kenyan girls!! The money we raise from the Bay to Breakers will go straight to making education a reality for 104 girls who would otherwise have no opportunity to attend secondary school.
This year, I'm paired with an amazing young woman named Eunice. She is a Form 4 at Daraja Academy, and will be a part of our first graduating class at the end of this year. Originally from a town called Makindu, Eunice is an AIDS orphan. Her father was a trucker that worked the route to Mombasa and brought the disease home. Eunice was fortunately taken in by an organization called the Makindu Children's Center, but when Eunice failed to score a 300 on her 8th grade exams (she scored a 299), the organization told her that she wouldn't be supported through secondary school. When the Daraja founders heard about Eunice, they gave her an interview and invited her to join the first class at Daraja Academy. She is a hard worker, who knows how luck she is to be in school. She studies constantly, knows who she is and where she wants to go, and is a great role model for the other girls on campus.
If you haven't already, check out the Daraja Academy website to learn more about this amazing school. www.daraja-academy.org
