NOTE - On the payment page, Crowdrise requests that you also "donate" an Optional Processing Fee. Paying this fee does NOT increase the funds going to BB/BS and you should feel free to change this amount to ZERO ($0).

I am running a 50-mile trail run (Yes, you read that right, FIFTY miles) and hope to raise $50k for our local Big Brother / Big Sister agency in memory of my "little" brother Donnie.

Click on arrows at left to see more photos and click on SEE MORE below for additional info about my run.

I have a matching sponsor so donations (up to $25k) will be doubled.  If you prefer to send a check, make it out to Big Brother / Big Sister and mail to me at:  82 Plain Rd  Wayland, MA  01778

I got involved with Big Brother / Big Sister in 1986 when I was matched with Donnie - an energetic, precocious 12-year-old boy living in Framingham.  Donnie & I hit it off immediately and I instantly became a huge fan of the BB/BS mission.  Over the past 28 years, I have served as Board Member, performed public speaking, and been a frequent volunteer (including the role of Santa Claus at their Christmas party one year).  As many of you know, I ran an annual marathon fundraiser from 1994 to 2001 and - over 7 years - raised $250,000 with your help.  These funds that were used to purchase the BB/BS office in Framingham MA (see photo)!

Donnie moved away, went to college and graduate school, became a Chiropractor, got married and had 3 children.  But we stayed in regular contact throughout the years - exchanging letters in the old days and then via email & Facebook. His mom still lives nearby so Donnie and I would catch up whenever he was in town.  Needless to say, I was very proud of all Donnie had accomplished and honored to think that I might have played some small role in his success.

So it came as a shock when Donnie passed away last summer following a brief illness at the age of 36.

On June 7th, I am running the Trail Animals Running Club (TARC) 50-mile trail run in memory of my "little" brother Donnie with a goal of raising $50k for 50 miles!

This is an official event with over 100 entrants (aka nuts) in the 50-mile event and 100 entrants (aka total psychos) in the 100-mile event.  While I promised in 2001 that the Boston Marathon would be my last marathon fundraiser, I didn't say anything about ultra-marathons and hope you will cut me some slack on this (although feel free to chastise me for only running the 50-miler)!

The first $25,000 in donations will be matched 100% as I have secured a matching sponsor

I PROMISE that this will NOT become an annual event so PLEASE dig deep and help all you can for this one-off event.

How long is a 50 mile:

  • Run the Boston Marathon course from Hopkinton to Boston, get to the finish line and turn around to run back to Ashland (the first town after Hopkinton)
  • Start in Wayland and run to Manchester NH, Warwick RI, Putnam CT, or the Quabban Resevoir (take your pick)
  • Start running at 7:00 am and keep going until 7:00 pm, hopefully!  I will, however, get an official time as long as I finish before 10 pm (15 hours).

Thanks for your support!
