Mentoring Makes a BIG Impact!
When you think back to your childhood, you may recall a person who once encouraged you to be better, smarter or stronger. Whether that person changed your day or your outlook on life, he or she made a measurable impact on your future. The need for mentors continues to grow for local children. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Flint is asking for your help to make a difference. At a time where more young people in Genesee County are failing in school, involved with risky behaviors and living in stressful home environments, it is investments in our youth that can make it possible to provide quality development services to our community. Our agency is issuing a call to action to the community of Genesee County to help us match 30 kids in 30 days. The cost of recruiting, training and maintaining a match between a Big and a Little for a period of one year costs our agency $1,200. We thank you for your support as we embrace our mission of changing the lives of our most vulnerable youth through strong and enduring one to one relationships that change their lives for the better, forever.
30 Kids in 30 Days!
Please take a few minutes to allow us to introduce you to 2 young people in the community looking to change their lives through the gift of mentoring.
Elijah is 12 years old and his favorite hobby is performing yo-yo tricks, which he has taught himself by watching YouTube videos. Elijah also enjoys soccer, basketball, and video games. Elijah is very mature, well behaved, and thoughtful. He lives with his mom. His father was in an accident which resulted in brain damage, so he is only able to spend a few hours with Elijah every other week. His mom is looking for a Big Brother who can spend consistent time with Elijah and be a positive role model in his life.
Nine year old Michael is being raised by his grandparents and is currently in the fourth grade. Michael is described as being very active! He really loves art, and also enjoys a variety of activities like playing outside, playing basketball and soccer, etc. His grandmother would like him to have a positive role model he can relate to, and is hoping Michael will gain more self-confidence, and learn more positive social interaction skills.
For 70 years, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Flint has been committed to our mission: to provide children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one relationships that change their lives for the better, forever. One-to-one mentoring has proven to have a positive effect on a young person’s life, making them less likely to begin using illegal drugs or skip school. Additionally, they are more confident in their school performance and are less likely to solve a problem with violence. Because they are the leaders of tomorrow, it is important that we touch as many young lives as possible! Help us continue to serve youth in Genesee County through your donation and partnership. Thank you for your support!
