START SOMETHING BIG!
Our Vision: All children achieve success in life.
Our Mission: To provide children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-ton-one relationships that change their lives for the better, forever.
Accountability Statement: We partner with parents/guardians, volunteers and others in the community and hold ourselves accountable for each child in our program achieving:
- Higher aspirations, greater confidence and better relationships
- Avoidance of risky behaviors
- Educational success
Being matched with a Big allows the Little to explore new interests and learn new things to help them gain assets necessary to grow into a healthy and successful adult. An independent national study of BBBS by Public/Private Ventures compared adults who were part of BBBS as youth compared to those who weren't, but with similar profiles. Surveyors found:
- 52% agree their Big kept them from dropping out of school
- 65% said their Big helped them reach a higher level of education than they thought possible
- 77% set higher goals because of their Big
- 77% said they did better in school because of their Big
- 75% were more likely to receive a 4-year college degree
