THE STORY:

We are a small non-profit in a small county in Alabama with a population total of about 20K. We are fundraising to get our campaign really off the ground. We have been around for a year this March. We've done a few events to raise money but more importantly, to bring attention to exactly what domestic violence and sexual abuse are.

To give you an idea, most of our events have been family centered because that is where violence starts; in the home. Our first ever event was a bake sale out the local grocery store. We brought baked  goods, face paint and stickers, and informational handouts to give to the adults and teenagers that came through. Our next event was a Blue Ribbon campaign. We made blue ribbons to be hung on business doors and mailboxes and sold those in April to raise awareness for child abuse and neglect. Our third event was a drive-in movie night. We made cardboard box cars for the kids, provided drink and snacks and showed The Lorax. "UNLESS. Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It's not." We chose that movie for that single line. Our last event was a concert in the park. We had three local bands come and perform, door prizes, games for the kids and food and drink available.

At this very moment, we are in the process of going to each high school in the county and giving a presentation about Healthy Relationships, a curriculum provided to us by Break the Cycle.

At each event, we pass out information about domestic violence and sexual assault to the adults and teenagers and provide acitivities for the kids to keep them busy while we talk with their parents. Our community has really come together to support us but we want to continue to grow.  We don't want to stop in Butler County, Alabama. We want to eventually be in every county in the state.

Your donation will be put in an account that is set aside specifically for funding for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault, to help them in the moment they need it, not after filling out a ton of paperwork and being reimbursed months later. We are working on creating a "task force" of sorts comprised of community leaders, teachers, law enforcment, doctors and nurses, etc. that will be available at any given moment to meet with the victim when the violence occurs. If we have a domestic violence victim, we have funds to give her to get her and her children on a bus to the next state over where they have family and can get away from her abusive boyfriend. If we have a sexual assault victim, we will have funds to give to him to help cover his medical bills that result from it.

Help us achieve our goal and help others by making a donation to our campaign!
