BENEFITING: Boston Chinatown Neighborhood Center, Inc.
ORGANIZER: Boston Chinatown Neighborhood Center, Inc.
EVENT DATE: Jun 13, 2015
I am thrilled to be a dragon boat paddler with Boston Chinatown Neighborhood Center for the 2015 Boston Dragon Boat Festival. I started volunteering with BCNC last year as a college access mentor for Victoria, a junior at John D. O'Bryant High School (which, coincidentally, is the same high school both my parents went to) in Roxbury. Throughout my time with BCNC as a mentor and on the Bamboo Circle Steering Committee, I've been astonished by the postive impact we have on the Asian immigrant and Asian American community. Personally, I've seen Victoria grow as a person, open up to me about her goals and concerns, and gain confidence in her college readiness. I'm having an incredible time volunteering for BCNC, and I'm excited to raise money for this important community resource. I appreciate any amount you can donate, and I'd love to see you at the festival on June 13 & 14 to cheer on the team!
If you'd like to make a donation by cash or check, please let me know :)
The Bamboo Circle, BCNC's young professional network, is racing in the 2015 Boston Dragon Boat Festival and aiming to raise $6,000 to support the BCNC Youth Center. Your donation will support the 150 youth that participate in leadership, college access and mentoring programs. Don't forget to cheer on the BCNC boat on June 13 &14, 2015 by the Charles River!
Since 1969, BCNC has served as a vital link for the Asian immigrant and Asian American community of Greater Boston. Most of those served are immigrant Chinese, with low family incomes and limited English ability. The mission of BCNC is to ensure that the children, youth, and families that we serve have the resources and support to achieve greater economic success and social well-being. As the largest human service provider for New England’s Asian American population, BCNC serves 2,000 children, youth and adults each year with early education, after school, youth development, adult education, family services, arts and enrichment and recreation programs.
