EVENT DATE: Nov 10, 2013
I am raising money to offset the cost of the first annual literacy day in Bryan/College Station, TX. The goal of this event is to provide a fun, memorable, literacy-centered activity for families to raise awareness of the vital importance of literacy and increase the number of volunteers working to making a difference in Bryan/College Station.
The costs involve renting/purchasing tents for the Reading Carnival, printing costs for flyers, signs and banners, and purchased supplies for the literacy awareness table to promote the event at the Texas Reds Festival. Anything you can give to support this cause is extremely welcome!
There are three components of the November 10th event.
1) Reading Carnival - individual tents offering fun, literacy-related games and activities for kids in kindergarten through 4th grade. The tents will be hosted by Texas A&M student organizations and other groups.
2) Literacy Organization Tables - representatives from literacy organizations in our community will share information with the public about how they can make a real difference in the lives of people affected by illiteracy through volunteering. In the process, they will educate the public about the devastating effects of illiteracy.
3) Public Speakers and Performers - storytellers and poetry readers will perform for the public. Representatives from the literacy organizations will also have an opportunity to speak, sharing their mission and opportunities with the public.
