BENEFITING: B CURED
ORGANIZER: B CURED
EVENT DATE: Nov 06, 2016
My inspiration to run this year and join a team such as B*Cured is as follows: My father died of colon cancer at the very young age of 42 years old when I was only 7. As I rapidly approach the age of 42 this September not a day has gone by the last 6 months where I have not thought about how young I still feel and how crazy it is that I lost my father when he was in his early 40's. Plus my oldest son, Trigg, is 7, the age I was when my father passed away, and to think of me not being there for him, Halsey, Amelia, and Ashley is unfathomable to me. Life can be cruel as we all know but no matter what obstacle one faces you have to stay positive and keep pushing forward as time is precious. Every day is an opportunity for all of us to do something special regardless of how big or how small. So as I approach 42 years old when my father passed away, there is a force out there motivating and inspiring me to try and make a difference in life and I cannot help but keep thinking of one of my favorite movie quotes from Andy Dufresne in Shawshank Redemption, “I guess it comes down to a simple choice, really. Get busy living or get busy dying”. I think running in the NYC marathon as I turn 42 this fall for a great charity such as B*Cured would be an amazing way to take head on the fight against cancer and get busy living!
B*CURED’s mission is to end brain cancer by funding innovative research grants. To date, B*CURED has awarded 14 grants to investigators searching for a cure for brain cancer at nationally ranked universities and hospitals.
B*CURED is an all-volunteer 501 (c) 3 organization, founded in 2008 by Debbie Needle and Melissa Salamé. B*CURED is run by co-presidents Karena Bailey and Kristin Duda. All money raised goes directly to brain cancer research.
B*CURED's fight is personal. All of us have had a loved one affected by this horrible illness. It is time to change the depressingly low statistics and give people the chance to survive brain cancer.
We will #BeatBrainCancer!
