BENEFITING: ARMS WIDE OPEN CHILDHOOD CANCER FOUNDATION
EVENT DATE: Aug 24, 2013
The past few years, cancer seems to be everywhere I turn. Last year, bile duct cancer claimed my godmother and a few years prior, my godfather passed away from lymphoma. This year cancer is hitting particularly close to home: a close friend's mother is fighting metastasized kidney cancer, another beloved friend’s 3-year-old daughter has Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, a caregiver was diagnosed with breast cancer, and someone very near and dear to me is currently undergoing a rigorous set of treatments for squamous cell carcinoma.
Most of the time I feel pretty helpless as I watch this ugly disease slowly debilitate people--physically and emotionally. So I’m going to run a 5K race on my birthday weekend and ask my social network of friends and family to support me.
I am not a runner and this isn't an official cancer race -- this is just a way for me to combine birthday fitness with a good cause.
I realize that I’m fortunate to be blessed with everything I want, so I hope my birthday greeters can help brave little warriors like Natalie Grace.
Please help my 36th birthday wish come true and donate any amount (nothing is too small!) to pediatric cancer research.
