BENEFITING: American Red Cross

THE STORY: wrote -

As the Publisher of, I often follow stories of tragic sudden events due to both natural and man made disasters across the world.  In most every case, whether isolated or catastrophic, I have found that The Red Cross is either there or available for support.

Annually The American Red Cross responds to approximately 70,000 disasters, and last year gave out more than one million relief items.  In 2013, The American Red Cross responded to over 52,000 house fires which affected over 226,000 lives, and while they continued to help families recover from Superstorm Sandy by providing $70M to over 60 nonprofit partners.

Disasters headline the news on a nightly basis, so they often inspire a sense of philanthropy and a will to help the victims of each event, but usually the spotlight shifts from one disaster to another before the effort is ever realized.

I speak from experience, because earlier this year I discovered this Crowdrise site in an effort to try and do something to help the victims and family members in desperate need of recovery from the enormous mudslide which devastated a small Oso, WA community about an hour away from where I grew up.

I immediately used social media to share videos and updates from the scene to create more awareness while I tried to research how to start an effective fundraising campaign and figure out how to best get the proceeds to those who needed them most.  Then Malaysia Flight 370 disappeared...

Though I may have failed to make the impact for Oso, WA that I aspired, I knew that The American Red Cross was there to provide disaster relief and help facilitate an organized effort for the community.  My discovery of Crowdrise at that time did empower me to exercise my philanthropic ambitions and instantly gave me a great credible partner to have facilitate all of the donations raised through my campaigns.  So, here's to you Oso!

Please join DISASTER411 in an effort to exceed our initial goal of raising $8220 ($20 x 411 = $8220) the remainder of this year with the proceeds benefitting The American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund, and helping to establish an even stronger platform to showcase philanthropy for both and

Thank you so much, and KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!
