Stuff About Me:

Thank You for Stopping Here!

This fundraiser is strictly for a friend, and an amazing person. I met Christine in College and at this point have shared a lot with her and her husband. Her surgery and this race are almost 3 years apart and since her surgery she is doing fantastic. I can not think of a more deserving individual or family to dedicate a race and fundraiser to than her. I have seen a very strong and persistent family and individual prevail under some very difficult circumstances and win. Please take a moment to read her story, directly from her family. All proceedes raised will be dedicated to Atheltes For Epilepsy on behalf of Christine Poulson. All donations also come with a complimentary Beanstrong Bracelet and are 100% tax deductible. Thank you for your support in advance!

Dear family and friends,
Upon review and recommendation from her Mayo Clinic Jacksonville, FL team of doctors, along with review and recommendation from her Aring Neurology Cincinnati, OH team, Christine is convinced that surgery is the answer to her accelerated seizure disorder which is caused by abnormal electrical activity in the left temporal lobe of her brain.
Christine’s left temporal lobectomy will begin on Tuesday, October 11, 2011 at the Mayo Clinic with an expected 10 to 14 day hospital stay for the series of three operations required to remove the affected area.
Temporal lobectomy is the most common type of epilepsy surgery for patients who have become drug resistant and it the most successful type:  After surgery, 70% to 80% of patients are free of seizures.  10% to 15% of patients still have some complex partial or focal seizures, but the number of seizures is reduced by more than 85%.  Therefore, more than 85% of patients who have had a temporal lobectomy enjoy a great improvement in seizure control.  Most patients need to continue taking seizure medicines, but they usually need less.  About 25% of the patients who become seizure-free eventually can stop taking their seizure medicines.
We will update as information becomes available during the process to enhance Christine’s quality of life.
Your support and prayers give us strength.
The Cisle and Poulson families

Best Regards,

Richard K. Maxwell
