BENEFITING: WESTERN REGIONAL ADVOCACY PROJECT
EVENT DATE: Oct 01, 2015
This is a direct action fundraiser to support the grassroots organizing of homeless people fighting back against the criminalization of their existence. WRAP is a national organization demanding a Homeless Bill of Rights and ensuring that the approach to homelessness is rooted in solutions like: housing, treatment, healthcare, and dignity.
On October 1st, from 2-4pm in San Francisco, Western Regional Advocacy Project [WRAP] and WRAP member organizations will be presenting a panel of experts presenting "Fighting BID's and Broken Windows." This panel will feature experts from all over California, Oregon, and Colorado - representing the academic, legal, and community-based perspectives on the REAL impacts of Broken Windows Policing and the Business Improvement Districts [BID's] role in promoting and funding this type of policing. Broken Window's Policing is a theory of policing that focuses on criminalizing the existence of poverty, blight, and undesireables in urban space. It is one of the main reasons our jail and prison systems are filled with poor people and people of color.
We need your support to bring our experts and a critical mass of homeless organizers and advocates from Oregon and Colorado to San Francisco to ensure that our voices are not only a part of the dialogue, but leading the discussion on real solutions. In order to achieve the legislative goals of our campaigns, we must make our struggle loud and clear! And we must center the voices of homeless people as the experts in the solutions to homelessness.
WE NEED YOUR CONTRIBUTIONS!!!
