Organized by: Leslie Coleman

THE STORY:

In case you actually read this.....
Here we go again! Let's help support the Gorham's!! Matt is self employed and having to be out of work A LOT!! Let's help lessen the burden of a new year, new deductibles and mounting medical bills as we head into another possible surgery and rounds of chemo.
No donation is too small!!! Every little bit helps! Let's all help Matt Kick this Cancer's A**, $1 at a time!!

Who is....Matthew Gorham(Geaudade to some) :)
Born and raised in Lexington, KY. UK graduate and avid CATS supporter in all things involving a BALL! Typical KY boy....Loves his Bourbon, Horses, CATS, and his LADY!! Matt is a self employed Hair Stylist.

His Lady...
Lindsey Gorham
Jersey born and moved to SC for her teen years. :) College of Charleston grad and avid USC Gamecock fan. Lindsey is a Special Education teacher.

Who are the Gorham's?
Well.......I think Lindsey's friend Robin could tell you a great story about how and when this all started....but we'll leave out the gory details.
Their story is a story of true love!! First meeting in 2002, and after dating for years Matt finally pulled the trigger in January 2010!! :)
See, Matt asked for her hand back in Nov 2008. And then Life handed it's first major curve ball in Dec 2008. Matt found out this crazy Hamstring "muscle" was indeed no muscle, but a large rare tumor. His plans to propose to the love of his life got put on hold, as he battled his first year of cancer with some intense rounds of chemo. Followed by a surgery in Sept 2009, to remove a mass around his kidney and his kidney. Realizing he had the BEST woman God would ever place in front of him, Matt proposed in Jan 2010, at the Lowcountry Oyster Roast at Boone Hall. A tradition for all of us for YEARS!!!
In the middle of some fairly intense chemo treatments, Matt and Lindsey were married on Folly Beach, SC on April 2, 2010, in front of 30/40 close friends and family. It was a night, as a witness, I will never forget!! The love and commitment shared between these two is truly, something admired by all lucky enough to call them friends and witness their journey.

The Story of How he got here.....
Matt had been thinking he had a really strong Left Hamstring. After going to a couple doctors, he finally received the news no one wants.....It's a Tumor...
and it has a name....
High Grade Round Cell Liposarcoma. A Crazy rare type of cancer.

First Caringbridge Entry.....

Barry, Matt and I had our first visit to the Hollings Cancer Center today to meet the oncologist. It's like it's own little community in there with a support calendar of events, exercise classes and a beautiful facility. They do cancer with class. We met with the oncologist and he was straight forward, extremely intelligent as you can imagine. He gave it to us directly, stating that he is concerned about the size of the mass (16 cm) and whether it has traveled to other parts of his body. The treatment plans will be determined after a full body CT Scan, MRI, and another surgical oncologist and radiological oncologist meeting. If it has not spread, Dr. Chin is hoping for a treatment plan to consist of radiation to shrink the tumor, surgery to remove it and radiation afterwards. We are hoping and praying for this. If it has spread, we will be looking at chemo, radiation, and surgery. Because Matt has not had any noticeable changes to his body like weight loss or illnesses, this is a good sign that it might have not spread. The wonderful, sweet nurse was able to get us in for the CT Scan today which made for a long, productive day. The results will be available in 48 - 72 hours. Next Monday, he will be having an MRI that is going to take at least 2 hours. He will be sedated, poor thing. He is not looking forward to this one. Next Wednesday, the 21st we will meet with the surgical oncologist to discuss the results of the tests and determine our next step. We are all hopeful and remaining positive. We love everybody and appreciate all of your support!

Hey everybody! Today was a good day. A real good day. Matt's surgery was a success. The tumor in his leg was removed without any nerve or blood vessel damage. It was a crazy shape but Dr. Camp got it all out. He did have to remove a little bit of his hamstring but it is not likely it will cause any long term damage. We feel incredibly thankful and blessed. He is doing well. They are hoping to get him up and moving around tomorrow with a little help from physical therapy. We hope to be here just a couple days. As a side note, this afternoon, my blue Matt bracelet that I've been wearing since the beginning of all this popped and broke as I was moving it up my arm. Crazy huh? Just had to share because I feel like it was a sign. We feel confident that we are moving in the right direction and putting cancer behind us. We understand the journey is not over and there's still lots more monitoring and scanning to do. But for today and tomorrow and a long while from now we feel we are lucky to be here and have each other and all of you.
Lots of love, Lindsey
